CCLI Classes &
Educational Programs
From language and dance to music and art — explore programs designed for all ages.
Learn Mandarin &
Cantonese
Founded in 1967, the Chinese Center on Long Island School continues to welcome families from Long Island and the New York City boroughs. Under the direction of Lydia Wong, with co-principals Lotus Wu and Donna Chan, the school opens its doors every Sunday during the Fall and Spring semesters for students eager to learn Chinese language and culture.
Grace, Rhythm &
Cultural Expression
Chinese Traditional Folk Dance has been part of CCLI since the early 1990s, blending the elegance of Chinese artistry with the discipline of dance. Students ages 4 and up progress from beginner to advanced levels, developing coordination, rhythm, and performance skills, with opportunities to join our Company Dance Group and Alumni Dance Company. Our dancers have performed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Ellis Island, Eisenhower Park, and many other venues, proudly showcasing the richness of Chinese culture through traditional and folk dances.
What You Will Learn
Discipline, Teamwork &
Cultural Pride
Each year, the Lion Dance Troupe takes on new challenges — from welcoming new members to mastering complex routines. Through discipline, teamwork, and focused practice, students deliver exciting performances that showcase their dedication and cultural pride. Guided by Instructor Christopher Bartoldus and Coordinator Stephanie Bartoldus, and supported by parents, the troupe continues to promote Chinese tradition through dynamic shows across the community.
What Students Develop
Public Speaking at
the Chinese Center
We believe communication is the foundation of confidence and success. Our public speaking programs help participants of all ages find their voice, build self-assurance, and develop the skills to speak with clarity and purpose in any setting.
Learn More →The CCLI Toastmasters Club, chartered in 2011 as part of the International Toastmasters Organization, helps adults master public speaking and leadership. Whether you're looking to advance your career, improve communication skills, or grow more confident, Toastmasters provides the tools and support to help you succeed.
Led by Fern Rashkover, Distinguished Toastmaster, the Young Public Speakers Workshop gives children and teens the tools to express themselves clearly and confidently. Through fun, interactive exercises, students learn to organize their thoughts, overcome nervousness, and communicate effectively.
Ancient Strings,
Timeless Music
The guzheng is an ancient Chinese string instrument with deep cultural roots dating back to before the 6th century BCE. It has 21 strings stretched over bridges, producing expressive and melodic sounds. The instrument blends history and tradition, connecting music with personal and cultural identity.
The Guzheng Instrument Class introduces students to the fundamentals of this traditional Chinese string instrument. Students will learn basic techniques, melodies, and cultural context through guided instruction. Class time and practice days will be scheduled separately.

Creativity, Expression &
Chinese Artistry
Art classes focus on enhancing students' creativity, aesthetic appreciation, and hands-on practical skills. Students not only learn fundamental artistic techniques but also develop the ability to express their inner artistic world. The program offers both free creation and themed painting activities, encouraging imagination and individual expression.
We believe effective art education requires a balance between technical training and creative thinking. Through practical learning experiences and exhibition opportunities, every student can discover their unique artistic style and experience the joy of creation.
