Teen Language Class

The Chinese Center on Long Island School opened its doors in 1967 to families on Long Island.  Today, our school attracts families from Long Island as well as from the New York City boroughs.  The school is guided by director Lydia Wong, co-principals Lotus Wu and Donna Chan, along with the administrative assistant Cailin Chan.  The doors are opened early Sunday during the Fall and Spring for eager minds ready to learn.

Reading, writing, and conversation in both Mandarin and Cantonese are led by teachers Mengshi Li, Maggie Fan, Tiffany He, Lilian Pan, & Tandy Tang.  They carefully guide their students in learning and practicing their skills through not only traditional methods but also with other various media including the computers and iPads in the classroom. Chinese classes are offered to all ages. The youngest students are toddlers in the Parent and Me class.  A parent attends class with a toddler to learn Mandarin.  There are Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced classes for children, teens, and adults.

Our students are also provided with opportunities to do volunteer work in the school.  They are often seen assisting teachers in the classrooms.  With hard work, there is always room for fun. Celebrations and parties are held for students to develop an appreciation for the Chinese culture and language.
